The Quest for Immortality — FastForward Radio

By | May 9, 2012

Phil and Stephen discuss the quest for immortality, which has been with humanity for a long time — perhaps since the very beginning, and which has done much to shape the world in which we live. New organizations are emerging with a whole new take on the proposition that life can be extended indefinitely.

How do we get from here to there? The phases might look something like this:

Life Extension

Durable Digital Replacements

Substrate Mobility

Immortality

So, will some of us live forever? And what does that even mean? Join us!

For those who have asked: the image shown is a woman emerging from the mythical Fountain of Youth. Presumably she looked a lot older when she jumped in, but we don’t have that picture…

Good show! The likely progression and order of appearance of digital double, enhanced human, uploaded mind makes sense. But a big question in my mind is, what about the ‘mind’? Is there something about experiencing mind that is not replicable on a digital substrate? Or, what if it is not all material? Will we miss something essential? Maybe ‘mind’ is primary and matter a projection of mind? If so, is there a BIG risk to assuming mind is upload able?
Have you had previous guests or shows that dealt with this? If so, please point me to those.
    Cheers!

Very interesting topic to discuss immortality, many of us will surely desire to have it. But we never know if when will be our last day here on earth. Only God knows!
