I’m wondering if the big breakthrough is that we can choose to let fear stand in the way – or not.
Harvey is right- if he’s drawn lines in his head to define “other’ by political party, those lines don’t have to exist. He wills them to exist.

So I’ wondering if a placebo woudn’t work nearly just as well.

I’m also wondering why we haven’t improved on alcohol as recreational beverage. I mean- give me a glass of water that makes me relax, feel socially fearless (or less anxious) etc. But then give me another glass of water that turns it off- no hangover, no dehydration at all, no slurred speech, no volume control issue, no memory failure.

Or let me choose which affects I want or not.

A drug like this may be necessary to “save the world”. It’ll probably have to be sneaked into the water supply. Lots of stubborn patients won’t take their medicine.

I think I am guilty of creating an “other” in politics (or maybe, bought into it). You’ve given me something to think about. It is apparent to me, the lines between parties, I made in my head, don’t exist.

Liked this post a bunch. I believe fear to be the biggest impediment to self-actualization. I know for a fact it has impeded me on many an occasion, and it stops millions of others every day from acting on ideas that they stomped on out of fear. Like you said, the risk might be people with no sense of self-reflection or control valve, and to a certain extent I think our behavior in certain situations is modulated by a justified fear of repercussions. But I think it’s a risk worth taking. Anyways, if some people do begin to surpress their fear complex, than if it doesn’t advance the species, evolution will stamp it out eventually anyways. Right??

For some reason the thought of someone suicidal but afraid to go thru with it comes to mind… I’m sure that like all other technologies this one will be abused once enough people have access to it.

Anyway, haven’t people been using alcohol for the same thing for a long time?
