Sorry about the name change, I signed in with google.

The Japanese people have been amazing. No anger, shouting or panic. In Tokyo we are inconvenienced, nothing more. There are huge queues for petrol (with no honking, even if the wait is hours) although that is now subsiding. Dairy supplies have been affected, mainly because those small farms are what you see on the news being washed away.
It's the 400,000 plus people in shelters only a little north that had their lives utterly destroyed. Currently, missing and dead totals 17,000. Temperatures at night dropping below zero (celcius!). Unfortunately the nuclear sideshow is taking the focus. And we are all utterly safe past the 3km zone.
It's the panic that's the danger for people but what I didn't write above was how natural using that massive amount of tech and social media was. I didn't even think about it until the babbling email to Phil. With that much information on the situation, and on my friends it was impossible to panic past the initial quake. You have to hand it to the large corporations for info and free services and the speed they made that decision. THAT is the future.
In Tokyo I always feel like I'm living in the future, In fact it's why I'm here.
This week just confirms it for me.
