Hmmm. Following your link to the 3D Realms website I notice that they did have a new Duke game come out in 2002 - Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project

http://www.3drealms.com/dukemp/

But that wasn't the release name for the Duke Nukem Forever Project.

Maybe it's an inside joke - you know even the name of the game sort of hints at that.

Unlike a never-ending taxpayer project, a game not being released hurts nobody, so let 3D Realms develop this game forever if they like, right?

Well, yeah but those of us who thought Duke Nukem 3D was a fun game are truly puzzled. Even a truly lame sequel made solely for the purpose of cashing in on a few poor geeks that didn't read the reviews would make more sense than....nothing.

I'm guessing 3D Realms is not publically traded. No way would an announcement like that be tolerated by stockholders. And there probably would have been a corporate takeover by now too.

Some company that has a clue on how to develop a fun 3D shooter should make 3D Realms an offer to buy this dusty franchise before its completely forgotten.
