From the perspective of a software architect, it seemed to me that most of the "productivity gains" brought about by computerization during 1990s were more about increasing the productivity of programmers and other information technology professionals. In other words, it has taken us about 20 years (from about the time the PC was introduced) to now in order to get our act together just enough in order to positively affect our society's economy in a significant way. As always shown under any successful economic dynamic, you can thank the standardization processes stimulated by Web technologies, Unix/Linux, Sun/Java and Microsoft for the fact that we have "gotten it together" as well as we have.
